Katy Perry-a Pop Star who has Failed Many Times

As she discussed on Sunday Morning on CBS, Katy Perry was a failure initially. Katy said that her stint as a Christian rock artist was a dismal failure. Then she got signed by a few other secular labels that also ended up as failures. Then Capital Records signed her and changed her name from Katy Hudson to Katy Perry and altered her sound and look and the rest is history-She is now one of the most famous people on the planet.

But Katy Perry’s story shows us that many people who  became succesful had many failures along the way.

If you are not as successful as you would like to be, remember that it takes time and patience and a little luck to make it big. But failure is part of the gig.

Heroes and risk taking

As a sports psychologist and keynote speaker, I am looking for great stories and messages-Here is one. Memorial Day just passed and with it goes our memories to all the heroes in the military-The men and women who take risks everyday.

While their lives are usually not the same as risk taking in business, there are many parallels.Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks who made billions on taking risks with new enterprises. Cuban mentioned that his life takes on a different hue when he is engaged in risk taking endeavors.

We have all heard it before-We must take risks to succeed-but I would also add that we should have a plan for your risk taking strategies-While it is important to leap, make sure you have a plan when you land!

Tiger Woods picks the Masters to meet the World again. Perfect choice!

The gallery will be behaved and the media will be controlled. Plus he has the best chance to win as his first tournament. Tiger does everything for a reason,  good or bad. But in the case of golf-he usually never makes a bad decision.

Have a web presence in business

There is a new saying in business-If you are in business, and you do not have a web presence-then you are not in business. When you are a business speaker like me, or just own a small business, you must master the web!

Let the new year be the time in which you commit to developing a web presence. You never know who is searching for you-or could be searching for you in the future. Here are some suggestions:

1) Have a blog

2) Have a blog  that links to your website. As your site becomes updated, your ranking goes up.

3) Have a million dollar website- or at least one that looks like you are worth a million-appearance is essential on the web.

4) Have a fan page on facebook, and start developing more and more fans.

5) Get on linked in-a valuable tool for internet networking.

Make it happen today, because when we put ourselves out in the universe-we never know what might happen!

The Un Leadership qualities of Tiger Woods

Today, Accenture was another one to jump ship on the Great Tiger. So far Gatorade opened the drain and Gillette decided to skin him as well.

They are paying for Tiger’s Leadership qualities-If people follow Tiger, they will do what he does- and that sells product. Except Tiger has lost one of the most important qualities a leader can have-Trustworthiness.

Who will trust Tiger now-It is clear his squeaky clean image was a sham, and so he has lost his credibility with his fans and his ability to be a pitch man.

As I would tell the children, follow the golfer, not the person, but of course, that is hard to differentiate.

Tiger Woods as a brand

A recent study reported by Brian Williams on NBC said that 91% of people would not change their buying patterns, regardless of Tiger’s transgressions.

Success sells according to Brian Williams. But Tiger Woods is much more than a brand-He is the face of Golf, and he has now hurt a sport that has boomed over the last 20 years, partly because of him.

Let us hope that Tiger does not hurt the great sport he loves-and I love!
